Get Ready for Manchester Marathon
2XU HAVE TEAMED UP WITH MANCHESTER MARATHON
TEAM TWO-TIMES-YOU ATHLETES ANNA MCKENNA, HARRY YOUNG AND SCOTT CADBY PROVIDE THEIR TRIED AND TESTED TIPS TO GET YOU RACE DAY READY.
"Know your why before you get started. It's always important to know this for those moments when you hit the hurt locker or the bottom of the well as some like to call it. Knowing your why when you hit those tough moments will help motivate you to reach your end goal and not allow anyone else's negativity to rub off on you."
Anna recommends writing it down on a piece of paper to make it real.
"You've been training, training hard and consistent. It is now time to put your training into practice."
Harry advises that there is no need to run faster than your planned pace at the start of the race - "You will fatigue yourself too quickly and end up slowing down at the end of the race because you've used up all your energy. Leave the fast stuff for the sprint finish!"
"Hydrate and eat! The old saying goes "You can't drive a race car without fuel" - We are the same - we need food and water to perform day to day activities and even more food and water when we are exerting an excessive amount of energy."
Harry suggests a small meal at least two hours before your race, and a gel 15 minutes before you start. Then, consume a gel every 30 - 45 minutes throughout your race.
"Attempt to freshen up in the day or two before the event - focusing on good nutrition, hydration and sleep."
Scott likes to wear compression socks or tights to ensure he is ready to hit the ground running on race day.
